Your Gateway to Success

Lymphoedema Training Academy of Africa uses strategies for learning and self-growth as the foundation for all courses and programmes. Built in collaboration with Jane Wigg, the founder of the Lymphoedema Training Academy Global, we strive to provide the most up to date and researched information available. At LTA:Africa we use state of the art equipment to achieve the best possible outcomes. This approach creates a unique opportunity to prepare our participants for a new adventure or for the next step in their career. We are the only training academy in South Africa to offer hands on training in lymphatic mapping. Look through our current course offerings below to learn more.

Essentials of Lymphoedema ~ R11000

Essential Care in Lymphoedema is the first step to becoming a certified FG-MLD ('Fill and Flush') therapist. You will learn assessment, differential diagnosis, skincare, exercise, garments, IPC, laser, multi layer bandaging and psycho-social care.

By the end of the course you will have a thorough understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system, enabling you to holistically assess and diagnose the patient with lymphoedema.

Although this course can be taken as a stand alone course and is accredited for CPD points, to become certified in FG-MLD you will need to complete part 2

Training is suitable for occupational therapists, physiotherapists, nurses, doctors and other health care professionals (at the discretion of the academy).

Advanced Lymphoedema Management: 'Fill and Flush' technique ~ R19000

The advanced course in lymphoedema management includes FG-MLD, taught by Jane Wigg, one of the pioneers of lymphofluoroscopy imaging and developed by Prof Belgrado.

Training includes Fluoroscopy in assessment of oedema, New dimensions and understanding of lymphatics, Mapping lymphatic drainage pathways, How to perform MLD after mapping, Drainage of upper and lower limbs and management of midline and head and neck lymphoedema.

Jane Wigg (RGN, MSc) is authorised trainer of Fluoroscopy Guided Manual Lymphatic Drainage (‘Fill and Flush’). As an innovator, Jane has been at the forefront of lymphoedema management for over 25 years.

By the end of this course you will be able to design and implement an appropriate research and evidence based individualised management strategy selecting from a range of therapies and new innovation.

This training is filled with evidence from UK LymphVision clinic and that of Prof Belgrado. Training is built on ongoing new evidence ensuring that you are provided with the most current knowledge available.

Successful students will receive a Certificate of Practice confirming they are a fully qualified LTA certified therapist (FG-MLD). Your details will be added to our global Directory of Therapists on our local and international websites (Certified FG-MLD therapists).

Therapists who have already completed their full CDT training at another recognised institution, can apply to attend part 2 only. If you would like to apply for Part 2 before Part 1, please contact us directly.

You do not need to carry out Lymphofluoroscopy (ICG) imaging to train in or carry our the FG-MLD or 'Fill and Flush' technique.
